When you have acne you need to take special care of your skin, especially if your skin is dry or very sensitive. Regular acne remedies dry the overproduction of oil on the skin and if your skin is already dry they will leave it irritated and flaky. For those with sensitive or dry skin a treatment is needed that would not dry it further.

Many of us have dry skin as we get older as the cells in the skin produce less sebum. In addition elastin and collagen in the skin become damaged and are not so efficiently repaired as we age. Women who are close to the menopause also begin to produce less estrogen which also causes dryness. skin can also become much drier in colder weather. For those with dry and sensitive skin and skin care routine needs to include gentle cleansing followed by moisturizing to help the dryness.
Cleansing
Many of the cleansers sold for those with acne are not suitable for dry or sensitive skin types. They usually contain harsh ingredients for fighting the acne that can irritate sensitive skin. Instead choose a gentle cleaner that is mild and will clean your skin without causing more irritation. Also do not wash your face too often as this can cause more irritation. Once in the morning and once at night is sufficient. Do not scrub or use a harsh wash cloth and use a very mild soap.
Moisturizing
Dry skin needs a good moisturizer and you need to choose a very light one that were not add extra oil to the skin and make the acne worse. Do not use thick lotions or creams which will clog pores and cause irritation.
Acne Treatments
Some of the ingredients used in acne treatments are benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acids and vitamin A derivatives including retinol and retinoids. if you use one containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide make sure you choose one with a very low concentration and use it as a spot treatment only. Do not spread all over the skin. If you do not react at this very low concentration you can try one with a slightly higher concentration. Also use only once a day to start and increase as your skin becomes used to it.
